Clean Water for Ghana – Sydney Shares Her Heart on Local News

Our own Sydney O’Leary was interviewed on WBIR news’ Live at Five about our current Change for a Change campaign. “After we drilled the well, we got to see the children going to school and flourishing,” she says. That’s truly our heart behind this campaign, along with bringing Jesus to those who don’t know him in Ghana. Board member Kristin Miller is a nurse practitioner at Trinity Medical, a Knoxville doctor’s office, and she shared the creative way she brought Change for a Change to her workplace. We also got to hear her heart for Ghana.

The Living Water and Hope

Last year so many of you participated with us in CHANGE FOR A CHANGE. You gathered your coins knowing they would become clean water.

Life. A chance for another person.

Remember this precious child standing beside his village’s drinking hole?

C4AC-Vibrant

Life for him and all of his friends will look very differently now. YOU have helped give them clean water. YOU have helped give them life. You have helped give them The Living Water. Jesus.

Little boy by the tree, Paulkrom

Now they have joy. Pure joy that can only come from Him.

Join us in continuing to pray for the village of Paulkrom as this water well is the first step to introducing Jesus to them. Pray with us that He will raise up a body of believers in this area to follow hard after HIM. And to continue making an impact on this village, SHOP in our STORE. Each purchase provides food, water or medicine to a child in need. The Beebe family will be traveling back to Paulkrom to distribute parasite medicines and each purchase will help with that.

Once again, be reminded you have been His vessel. YOU have helped spread HIS word in the country of Ghana, Africa.  Keep watching for updates of the other wells that will be drilled from the 2013 campaign!!

Change for a Change

Imagine a 4 year old boy in charge of fetching water day in and day out for his family.  Or a 10 year old girl who longs to go to school, but she cannot because her job is to make sure her family has water each day.  Or a woman that is 8 months pregnant walking back and forth down a dirt road as her back is aching just so she can quench the thirst of her young child. And the water?  It is dirty.  Muddy brown water filled with parasites and mosquitoes and infested with frogs and tadpoles.  A reality for so many.  A harsh reality.

The village of Paulkrom is located in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Africa.  A village populated with mostly farmers, a basic school and no clinic.  The only source of water is a huge hole they dug using farming tools to collect rainwater, which has now become a pond.  During the rainy season, they fetch their water from this insect infested pond.  Everyone suffers water-borne illnesses from drinking this unclean water, but the children suffer more.  Their little bodies cannot bear it.  They are infested with parasites, ringworm and ridden with diarrhea.  This pond, their only water source, dries out COMPLETELY during the dry season.  Because of this the villagers have to walk MILES to various neighboring villagers for water.  MILES.  Can you imagine?

This is where YOU can make a difference.  You can be the CHANGE.

You can collect CHANGE FOR A CHANGE from now until November 4, 2012, Orphan Sunday.  Join us as we challenge children, families, small groups, youth groups, cub scouts, whole churches or anyone else to get an empty water bottle and cut a hole in the side.  Collect as many coins as you can and imagine as each coin drops in that it is a drop of water.  Water for life.

A water well in Ghana costs approximately $10,000.  During last year’s Change for a Change campaign we were blown away by the generous support of donors like you!  We exceeded our goal of one borehole and were able to drill two water wells.  This year our goal is THREE, but we need your help!!  Join us this year and make a difference in the life of a child by helping to give them hope, a future, health, education and most importantly WATER FOR LIFE.  You see, FTO has partnered with Meaningful Life International and we are dedicated to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Meaningful Life International, a ministry outreach in Ghana, not only coordinates the local well driller, but they also maintain follow-up with each village to reach them with the gospel of Jesus Christ and provide them with the true Living Water.  Many times a water well is the first step in bringing Jesus to a village.  Partner with us this Orphan Sunday as we help prevent the orphan crisis, ONE CHILD AT A TIME.

Click BEEBE to read a post our missionary friends wrote a few weeks ago about HOW DO YOU CHOOSE?  Honestly, choosing a village that will receive the gift of clean water is very difficult.  That’s why we need you to help us spread the word.  CONTACT us if you have any questions or if you would like to be a state representative for this year’s campaign. Also, please let us know if you have a group participating. We will be updating the website with the group name and state and also posting on the Orphan Sunday website.

John 4:14 – But those who drink the WATER I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them ETERNAL LIFE.

Village of Deti

In the village of Deti they have to walk 15 minutes down a narrow path just to get water that’s not even clean.

We got an email from our friends, the Beebe’s, telling all about the village.  As I read it, my heart was broken to hear that the kids’ bellies were distended and they had torn clothes.

We did a campaign, CHANGE FOR A CHANGE, last year for Orphan Sunday where families, youth groups and churches put their loose change in a bottle and God used you to raise enough money to build a well for this village.  I am so excited that their borehole is finished and their CLEAN WATER will be pumping this week!!!

This village is desperate for Jesus!!!    There are shrines in front of nearly every home.  They need JESUS and this well will be the start of bringing them WATER FOR LIFE!!!

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. – Isaiah 41:17

Royal Seed School

Last week, a fellow adoptive mom posted on FB about this home being in dire need.  They were out of water.  A basic necessity.

Instantly, my mind went to

MATTHEW 25:35 – WHEN I WAS THIRSTY, YOU GAVE ME A DRINK.

As I talked with Sydney and we prayed, it was clear.  Give them water.  Be Jesus to these precious children.

After talking with our partner on the ground, John Nyavor, he agreed to travel with Job to visit the home himself the next day.  People made donations for these children to have water.  People like you.  People that want to make a difference and for that we are thankful!  Beyond thankful!

So much water was able to be delivered

The kids played music for them

And to me, this is the true picture of Jesus.  A child helping another child.  A child giving water to another child.

Whatever you did to the least of these, you did unto me. – Matthew 25:45

Once again we say thank you.  You make this possible.

East Cobb Christian School

East Cobb Christian School outside of Atlanta, Georgia had so much fun collecting their coins for CHANGE FOR A CHANGE.  Their total?  Over $1,600!!!!

The kindergarten class pouring their change into buckets

The third grade class displaying their “change”

The first grade class trying to pick up all of their coins….HEAVY!!!!!!

Mrs. Ficarrotta’s 2nd grade class displaying their coins!!!

And buckets lined up full of coins….imagine you can see clean water because every coin goes to drilling a water well in the village of Mawoekpo, Ghana!!  The children who once walked 5 miles in the dry season will no longer walk!  They will not worry about becoming sick each time they drink. They will be given clean water EVERY DAY!!!  They will be given the love of Jesus, they will be given WATER FOR LIFE.

For when I was thirsty, you gave me a drink.

– Matthew 25:35

Kids Helping Kids

Last week, I received this from a friend in Dibble, Oklahoma.

Connor has a goal of filling this bucket with his CHANGE FOR A CHANGE.  A whole bin full of coins to help provide clean water for the people of Mawoekpo.

Tonight we had dinner with new friends in Greenback, TN and we brought this home.

Their 8, 7 and 2 year old children have had so much fun collecting coins.

These children and so many more are working hard to provide clean water to the village of Mawoekpo, Ghana.  They are making a difference in the lives of so many children and their parents.  They are ensuring these precious faces no longer have to walk miles and miles to fetch dirty water.

Orphan Sunday is one week from tomorrow.  It’s not too late to order a shirt to wear!!  Let’s fill our churches with orphan care shirts and provide food, water and medicine to children in need.  If you have stories or pictures to share with us, email them here.  THANK YOU FOR BEING A BLESSING!!

Change for a Change

Orphan Sunday is just two weeks away.  It’s not too late to collect coins for clean water.  All you have to do is get a water bottle or bucket and fill it up with coins.  Make sure you turn the money in by November, 14.  All of the coins will go towards drilling wells in Ghana West, Africa.  How would you feel if you had to get up and walk miles to get water and you wouldn’t get to go to school?  That is what these kids have to do every day.  Will YOU help me change that??? Will YOU help me change kid’s lives??? Will YOU help me save these kids lives by giving them clean water???
